Educate your Community about Mental Health and Stigma

The Sing! for Mental Health Project was designed to shine a light on exceptional people in New Jersey who are educating their own communities about mental health and stigma. Through art, music, and dance, they are creating uplifting and life-affirming messages about mental health awareness, stomping out stigma, and encouraging people to seek treatment when needed.

Powerful Performances and Powerful Outreach about Mental Health within New Jersey Communities

Everyone can educate about mental illness and stigma! At your next performance, address your audience with a few mental health facts, dedicate your concert to a mental health cause on your announcement, or fundraise for a mental health organization or provider. Send us a video to be considered as a featured performer on the Council website! Show off your musical and other talents with a message to help eliminate stigma and strengthen mental health for all!

Sing! for Paterson

09/18/2025

Paterson NJ is a city of intense daily challenges for its residents. Recognizing this, Reverend Sarah Anthony organized a concert of 10 city churches that came together to educate, fight stigma, and “Sing for Paterson.” Join the Pastors as they discuss their mental health outreach, and share uplifting messages about therapy and prayer’s powerful, combined role in healing. Special thanks to Council volunteers, Tamica Ruffin and Jonathan Chazen, for their assistance in making this video.

Who We Really Are

09/18/2025

The RWJ Barnabas Behavioral Health Center featured an art exhibit created by its patients called “Who We Really Are.” Hosted by the OC Library Toms River Branch, this video shows the public interacting with intricate masks of the patient’s faces; decorated on the outside with stigmatizing images representing how the patients feel they are seen, and on the inside with more intimate expressions of their true selves. The video includes an interview with a participating artist about the exhibit’s ambitions to increase awareness of mental health and diminish associated stigma.

Contact the Council’s Coordinator of Community Outreach and Partnerships Cynthia Chazen at cchazen@njamhaa.org to go over the simple guidelines, obtain needed forms, and talk about your vision for your video submission. Your video can then be submitted to the Council for consideration for posting on the Council website. There is no guarantee of acceptance and all decisions of the Council regarding web content are final.

The New Jersey Governor's Council on Mental Health Stigma invites individuals to share their videos.
