The Governor’s Challenge to Prevent Suicide Among Service Members, Veterans, and the Families (SMVF) seeks to bring entities together as a coalition. We believe that operating as community-based initiatives, coalitions extend the reach of evidence-based prevention, intervention, and postvention resources, training/education and services to reach underserved communities and populations.

NJ DMAVA

The New Jersey Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (DMAVA) is the lead agency for the Governor's Challenge to Prevent Suicide Among Service Members, Veterans & Their Families (SMVF).

The mission of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is to provide trained and ready forces prepared for rapid response to a wide range of civil and military operations, while providing exemplary services to citizens and Veterans of New Jersey.

NJ Dept of Health

Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death among Americans, the second leading cause of death for adults aged 25-34, and the third leading cause of death for youths and young adults aged 15-24.

In New Jersey, 60 percent of all violent deaths are suicides. There are almost twice as many suicides as homicides in New Jersey.
