NJDOC Tablets Information for Families and Friends
NJDOC is implementing tablets to provide approved communication and service access for incarcerated individuals. Tablets are issued by NJDOC and remain NJDOC property. This page contains official information for families and will be updated as additional details become available.

Do Families Need to Take Action Now?
No. Families should wait for NJDOC instructions before creating accounts or making purchases. Setting up accounts too early may result in delays or confusion.

What’s Happening
Beginning in March 2026, NJDOC will begin issuing tablets to incarcerated individuals across facilities. Tablets support approved communication and services. Some features are free, and some optional services may have a cost.

Where to Get Updates 

  • On February 25, 2026, families will be directed to the approved provider to create accounts and access support.
  • This page is the official source for NJDOC tablet information.
  • Families are encouraged to check back regularly for updates. 

What Families and Loved Ones Should Know 

  • Tablets are issued to incarcerated individuals, not to visitors or family members. 
  • Some tablet features are available at no cost.
  • Optional paid services are clearly identified. 
  • All communication is subject to NJDOC rules and review.

Phone Calls

  • Incarcerated individuals may be able to place phone calls using a tablet when phone access is available at their facility. 
  • Tablet phone calls follow the same rules and rates as facility wall phones. 

Costs and Payments

  • Some optional tablet services may have costs. Free options are also available. 
  • Families will be provided with clear instructions before any payment or account setup is required.

  • On February 25, 2026, families will be directed to the approved provider to create accounts and access support.
  • Please follow NJDOC guidance to avoid delays or issues.

The Department continues to work with ViaPath on the next phase of communication and technology services. Preparations are underway for the introduction of secure tablets across NJDOC facilities. These tablets will expand access to educational programming, reentry resources, and approved communication tools. Installation and testing schedules are progressing, and additional details will be shared as implementation moves forward.

May 8, 2025 – JPay Deposit Services Ending Soon

In addition to JPay, friends and family members can now use ViaPath via this link www.ConnectNetwork.com to make deposits.

JPay will no longer be used as of July 31, 2025.


April 22, 2025 - Phone Call Rates Reduced by 22%

We’re excited to announce a 22% reduction in domestic phone call rates per minute. As of May 1, 2025, the rate for an incarcerated persons’ call is $0.034 per minute. This rate reduction reflects our commitment to making communications with your loved ones more affordable, so staying connected is easier.


March 27, 2025 - Money Transfer Fees Reduced 37%

Starting April 30, 2025, JPay will no longer be the provider of money transfers to an incarcerated person’s trust account. The process for sending money to an incarcerated person’s trust account will be provided by ViaPath Technologies beginning March 24, 2025. ViaPath Technologies offers a user-friendly online platform that allows families and friends to deposit funds directly into individuals’ trust accounts. To send funds online, visit: www.ConnectNetwork.com.

Through this new service offered by the NJDOC, the cost to send money to an incarcerated person has been reduced by an average of 37 percent. This reduction in fees is part of the Department of Corrections’ commitment to reducing the financial burden on families and friends to stay connected.

To send money order payments to an incarcerated person’s trust account, please utilize the ViaPath Technologies Trust Account Money Order Payments deposit slip.

Incarcerated person’s trust account can be used for:
  • Commissary
  • Phone calls
  • Business remits (publications, gifts, donations, etc.)
  • Incentive programs
  • Transfer funds to JPAY Media Account

March 24, 2025 - New Money Transfer System

New Money Transfer System:
  • Sending money to an incarcerated person’s trust account will now be easier and more secure. ViaPath Technologies offers a user-friendly online platform that allows families and friends to deposit funds directly into individuals’ accounts.
  • How to Send Money:
    • Visit the ViaPath Technologies website: www.ConnectNetwork.com
    • Create an account or log in.
    • Follow the prompts to add funds to your loved one’s trust account.
    • Payment methods include credit and debit cards, ensuring a convenient experience.
  • Incarcerated person’s trust account can be used for:
    • Commissary
    • Phone calls
    • Business remits (publications, gifts, donations, etc.)
    • Incentive programs
    • Transfer funds to JPAY Media Account (please note that NJDOC will be transitioning to ViaPath tablets and phasing out existing JPAY tablets this year.)
Coming Later in 2025: Tablet Program
  • The NJDOC will introduce new tablets, which will remain the property of the Department but will be loaned to incarcerated individuals at no cost. These tablets will provide access to educational resources, legal materials, video visitation opportunities, and other communication tools, fostering rehabilitation and connection with family.
