Office of Diversity Programs

The Office of Diversity Programs is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to support and facilitate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) for the State’s civil service workforce.  In working with state agencies, departments and local jurisdictions, the Office of Diversity Programs actively engages its stakeholders to increase DEI so that every employee, and prospective employee feels valued and respected. The Office further reinforces CSC’s commitment to creating a more equitable workforce and valuing the differences that all employees and prospective employees bring and contribute to our shared values and goals.The Office hosts numerous outreach events, training, and professional development programs, along with targeted initiatives focused on cultivating DEI for New Jersey’s civil service workforce.

The CSC Diversity Council serves as a state forum to provide diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) resources for departments and agencies.  Council activities include sponsoring training programs, providing resource information to agencies and stakeholders, and advising/making recommendations on DEI matters relevant to the civil service workforce. The Council’s membership is comprised of representatives (liaisons) from agencies who have been selected for participation by their organization’s leadership.  Members serving on the Council have roles within their respective organizations that involve implementing, coordinating, and/or directing DEI activities. The Council has actively supported DEI training for New Jersey’s civil service workforce through its implementation and involvement in the annual Roundtable Discussion series and the State Workforce Diversity Summit.

Employment Information Sessions

Office of Diversity Programs (ODP) hosts virtual and in-person employment information sessions throughout the year. Participants are provided step-by-step “instruction and how to” on applying for job announcements posted on CSC’s website. Additionally, information is provided on the types of positions available, i.e., competitive, non-competitive, and the variety of public service careers within government service. These sessions have been sponsored and supported by various partners, including NJ departments/agencies, community organizations, One-Stop Career Centers, colleges and universities, etc.

As part of State as a Model Employer (S.A.M.E.) initiative, ODP will host targeted sessions focused on assisting individuals with disabilities navigate the employment process while addressing real or perceived barriers to employment.

New Jersey Civil Service Commission Law Enforcement Mentoring Program

Pursuant to P.L. 2021, c.235, the NJ Civil Service Commission has established a mentoring program, see

The purpose of the Mentoring Program is to assist law enforcement applicants through the civil service application process, and to help address obstacles that may impede their access to law enforcement job opportunities. The program will incorporate various activities including subject matter-focused workshops, group discussions, and career and goal planning.

This program does not provide a guarantee of employment but offers an opportunity for mentees to increase their preparation for law enforcement job opportunities.  Further, participants do not have to have any law enforcement experience or background. 

Applications for the next Mentoring Program cohort will be available December 2024.

Law Enforcement Examination Preparatory Course

Senate Bill No. 2765 requires the Civil Service Commission to undertake various initiatives to increase diversity and inclusivity within law enforcement agencies. As part of this legislation CSC has created this FREE preparatory course and assessment, designed to assist you in preparation for taking the Law Enforcement Aptitude Battery (LEAB).

It is intended for New Jersey residents of any low-income community or any municipality in the state with at least one “qualified opportunity zone” as determined under 26 U.S.C 1400Z-1.
