The Office further reinforces CSC’s commitment to creating a more equitable workforce and valuing the differences that all employees and prospective employees bring and contribute to our shared values and goals. The Office hosts numerous outreach events, training, and professional development programs, along with targeted initiatives focused on cultivating DEI for New Jersey’s civil service workforce.

The CSC Diversity Council serves as a state forum to provide diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) resources for departments and agencies.  Council activities include sponsoring training programs, providing resource information to agencies and stakeholders, and advising/making recommendations on DEI matters relevant to the civil service workforce. The Council’s membership is comprised of representatives (liaisons) from agencies who have been selected for participation by their organization’s leadership.  Members serving on the Council have roles within their respective organizations that involve implementing, coordinating, and/or directing DEI activities. The Council has actively supported DEI training for New Jersey’s civil service workforce through its implementation and involvement in the annual Roundtable Discussion series and the State Workforce Diversity Summit.

New Jersey Civil Service Commission Law Enforcement Mentoring Program

Pursuant to P.L. 2021, c.235, the NJ Civil Service Commission has established a mentoring program, see https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/Bills/2020/PL21/235_.PDF

The purpose of the Mentoring Program is to assist law enforcement applicants through the civil service application process, and to help address obstacles that may impede their access to law enforcement job opportunities. The program will incorporate various activities including subject matter-focused workshops, group discussions, and career and goal planning.

This program does not provide a guarantee of employment but offers an opportunity for mentees to increase their preparation for law enforcement job opportunities.  Further, participants do not have to have any law enforcement experience or background.

Applications for the next Mentoring Program cohort will be available December 2024.
