Course Description
As professionals in the workplace, we may routinely write business documents to provide and/or request information. This activity makes it essential that the words we choose, and how we use them when we write, result in the development of effective, well-crafted business documents. Knowing which elements to include in specific business documents is necessary to achieve the desired outcome. Moreover, writing well is a vital element for a successful career. In other words, to thrive at work, it's essential to thrive at business writing.
This "Advanced Business Writing" course is comprised of information and techniques learners may adapt to enhance their business writing skills. You will review, discuss, and apply business writing techniques in the development of policies, procedures, business reports, executive summaries, and proposals. The styles of citing sources will also be reviewed.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify general principles of effective business writing
- Review and compare distinct types of business documents
- Review and outline the following distinct types of business documents:
- Procedures
- Policies
- Business Reports and Executive Summaries
- Proposals
- Review and discuss the following citation styles for quoting and paraphrasing information from external sources in the business writing context:
- APA - American Psychological Association
- Modern Language Association
Registration
Learning Management System Users: Please login into your Learning Management System account and navigate to “Now Enrolling” from the “Browse” drop-down menu. Select the training you wish to register for and click “Enroll.” This will initiate the required approval process.
External participants, can click here to complete the HR-1 Training Authorization Form. Your direct supervisor, departmental training coordinator, and fiscal officer must approve the form. HR-1's received without proper approval will be returned to the Department's Training Coordinator.
Please note: You are not scheduled for the requested classroom training until you receive an official email confirmation from CLIP.
