New Jersey State Ethics Briefing Training

Course Description

The Ethics Briefing is a concise summary of basic ethics standards applicable to State officers and employees in the Executive branch. The New Jersey State Ethics Commission requires that State employees in the Executive Branch complete an ethics briefing in any year in which they do not complete a comprehensive ethics training program.

Learning Objectives

After completion of the course, you will be able to:

• Understand the zero tolerance policy for gratuities, tips, and gifts
• Give examples of items of nominal value
• Know when to contact your agency’s Ethics Liaison Officer (ELO)
• Understand the rules for business meals and reimbursement
• Understand the rules for attendance at events and when to complete an Events Form
• Define what constitutes a conflict of interest
• Distinguish the difference between acceptable and unacceptable political activities
• Understand the restrictions of future employment and post-State employment
• Understand the penalties for violations to the Ethics Code

Training Registration

Learning Management System (LMS) Users: Log into the LMS via the MyNewJersey portal and click eLearning. Click on the Browse icon, and navigate to “Government & Compliance.” Select the desired training and click “Launch.”
