New Jersey Civil Service Commission Law Enforcement Mentoring Program

What’s It All About?

Pursuant to P.L. 2021, c.235, the NJ Civil Service Commission has established a mentoring program, see

Program Purpose

The Law Enforcement Mentoring Program is designed to support individuals interested in pursuing careers in law enforcement by providing guidance and information related to the Civil Service application, examination, and hiring process. The program focuses on addressing obstacles that may arise at different stages of this process while promoting informed decision-making and realistic expectations.

Program Structure

The program is delivered through structured, group-based sessions. Mentoring is provided by experienced law enforcement professionals in coordination with Civil Service subject matter experts (SMEs). Sessions emphasize clarity, accessibility, and shared learning rather than individualized advising.

Program Scope and Boundaries

The program provides general guidance and process awareness. It does not include individual application review, test coaching, or guarantees related to examination outcomes or employment. Participation supports preparedness and understanding of the Civil Service process but does not influence hiring decisions.
