Purpose:

The Drug Abuse Education Fund grant is a 100 percent state funded initiative. It is intended to provide targeted school-aged youth with an evidence-based national or statewide model substance abuse disorder education and prevention program that has demonstrated success. This program is to be delivered by law enforcement personnel to students grades K-12 during the school day. The students to be served are in 300 public, nonpublic, charter and Renaissance project schools in the nine counties with the highest prevalence of drug abuse, based on NJ Department of Human Services data. Funding comes from the Drug Abuse Education Fund which receives portions of designated refunds and penalties assessed against individuals adjudicated or convicted of certain crimes. These funds are appropriated annually to NJDOE for this purpose.

This grant program is open to Law Enforcement Against Drugs (LEAD) Inc., the applicant selected through a competitive process in year 1.

The fifth and final project period for the Drug Abuse Education Fund Grant Program grant is November 1, 2020-August 31, 2021 and is contingent on funds being appropriated in the FY21 state budg
