Purpose: 

The intent of the Mental Health Screening in Schools (MHSS) Grant Program was developed to provide supplemental funding and resources to allow LEAs involved in the School-Based Mental Health Services Grant to implement depression screening programs to identify students in the grades seven through twelve who are at risk of depression and related symptoms.

The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) has established a five project period grant program. The Mental Health Screening in Schools (MHSS) Grant Program is open to the 11 Local Education Agencies (LEAs) that were selected through a competitive process in project period 1 for the School-Based Mental Health Grant Services (SBMHS) grant program.

Maximum award size is dependent on student enrollment. Applicants may apply for $59,238 - $82,593 in project period 1. Based on the availability of state funding, project period 1 will begin February 1, 2024 and will end on December 31, 2024.
