Purpose:
The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Innovation in Education grant opportunity is built around on two complementary areas for Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to focus on:
- Teaching with AI: This element is intended to support the development of a pilot program utilizing generative AI tools to empower educators and enhance instructional practices across the district though the augmentation of their existing pedagogical and content knowledge. Specific use cases may include leveraging AI for individualized tutoring, conducting data analysis to inform interventions as it relates to instructional learning opportunities, and upskilling teachers through AI-focused professional development.
- Teaching about AI: This element is intended to support the development of innovative AI literacy curricula and applied learning experiences to build student understanding and hands-on skills with generative AI in K-12. Examples include creating lessons on AI ethics and societal impacts, planning and designing AI-focused makerspaces for project-based learning or launching AI design competitions and career exploration initiatives.
This NGO is open to NJ LEAs with at least one high school operating any of the grades 9-12, and which has an existing AI advisory committee overseeing AI integration in the local curriculum. Applicants may
apply for up to $75,000. Ten (10) awards are expected to be made. The first three (3) awards will be made in rank order by region, with the remaining awards to be awarded in rank order regardless of region.
This is a single year (12 month) grant program.
Based on the availability of FY25 State appropriations, this single year grant program will begin February 1, 2025, and end on January 31, 2026.
Eligible Agencies: High schools which have an existing AI advisory committee overseeing AI integration in the local curriculum
