Purpose:
The purpose of this grant program is to prioritize the recruitment and support of teacher candidates in one or more high poverty school districts in the State as defined in section 3 of P.L. 2007, c.260 (C 18A: 7F-45). ‘Teacher candidates’ are defined as enrolled students in a New Jersey approved educator preparation program (EPP). Recipients will identify, substantiate and document effective programs, strategies and resources to increase the recruitment and support of teachers, with special emphasis on minority teachers, into high poverty school districts. Recipients will support teacher candidates with placement into at least one high poverty school district for their clinical placement and financially support teacher candidates in their final program year.
The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) has established a twelve (12) month grant program. This program is open to New Jersey Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) with an approved EPP with a Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) pathway. The IHE must provide evidence of successful implementation of programs that recruit and support teachers in high poverty school districts, with special emphasis on minority teachers. The IHE must apply on behalf of the partnership that includes at least one high poverty school district.
Based on the availability of FY26 state appropriations, this grant program will begin June 1, 2026, and will end on May 31, 2027. Applicants may apply for up to $250,000.
