Office of the Secretary of Higher EducationThe New Jersey Campus Sexual Assault Commission has released its Transforming Campus Climate Action Plan, which sets forth a coordinated, statewide strategy to prevent and respond to campus sexual assault across New Jersey institutions of higher education.
The New Jersey Campus Sexual Assault Commission (“CSAC” or “Commission”) is an independent public body established under P.L. 2019, c. 299. The Commission is charged with examining campus sexual assault, supporting evidence-based policy development, and advising the State and institutions on strategies to ensure safe, inclusive learning environments. This includes overseeing the implementation of New Jersey’s 2020 campus climate survey mandate and identifying needs revealed through the first cycle of statewide data collection.
A safe campus environment is both a moral imperative and a defining factor for students and families navigating higher education decisions. Campus safety ranks among the foremost concerns for prospective students, and when institutions fail to address sexual assault effectively, the consequences extend far beyond individual survivors. Student trust in campus safety systems shape whether they choose to attend or remain at an institution, making this not just a matter of compliance but of genuine care for the people colleges and universities are meant to serve.
The Transforming Campus Climate Action Plan responds directly to CSAC’s legislative charge under P.L. 2020, c.104., outlining next steps for the Commission, the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE), and New Jersey’s colleges and universities.
