Q. Why is this work being done?
A. Structural inspections are ratings performed by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) indicated a need for major rehabilitations of the viaducts if they are to remain in service.
Q. Who is doing the work?
A. The NJDOT awarded one contract for this project in May 2005 to D'Annunzio and Sons, Inc. of Clark. Herman Krieg is the NJDOT Resident Engineer who will supervise the work.
Q. How much will it cost?
A. It is estimated that the total rehabilitation of these roadways and viaducts will cost $225 million and will be funded by the Federal Highway Administration. This total includes costs for engineering, right of way, utilities and construction.
Q. How long will it take to complete?
A. The work is scheduled to go from 2005 to 2010 and will be done in stages that will reflect the needs of the community as well as the need to expedite the work.

A. Suburban Transit buses and NJ TRANSIT light rail serve the area.
Q. Where are the park and rides?
A. Park and ride information is available online.
Q. Is the community involved?
A. Yes, NJDOT has been working with Jersey City Police and officials and residents, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, NJ TRANSIT, the NJ Turnpike and the New York City Department of Transportation. There have been public information centers and the liaisons will be ongoing throughout the project.
