Common Core Academy Technical Assistance Session March 11, 2013 Questions & Answers

Purpose: The Common Core Academy (CCA) Grant Program is a summer program intended to increase the academic achievement of students in English language arts and mathematics by enhancing classroom teachers' content knowledge and teaching skills aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and by supporting principals to lead CCSS in their schools. Partnerships between high-need school districts and institutions of higher education, with their units that train teachers and principals and their school of arts and sciences are at the core of these improvement efforts. Additional partners may include public charter schools, businesses, and nonprofit or for-profit organizations concerned with English language arts and mathematics education. Private schools are encouraged to participate in the program. Private schools within the boundaries of any high need Local Education Agency (LEA) may participate directly in the program through the local public school district. The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) has established a two month summer grant program that support teachers of English language arts, and mathematics, at all grade levels, from high need districts. CCA funding (through Title II-A � Higher Education funds) support the development and support of partnerships between IHEs and LEAs. Based on the availability of federal resources, this two month grant program will begin July 1, 2013 and end on August 31, 2013.
