NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid Returns to Regular Annual Renewals
As required by federal law, New Jersey’s Medicaid program, known as NJ FamilyCare, returned to regular annual eligibility renewals on April 1, 2023. States have 12 months after April 1 to resume eligibility renewals for all Medicaid beneficiaries – this includes more than 2 million NJ FamilyCare members. NJ FamilyCare is sending renewal letters to about 1/12th of its members each month for the 12 months following April 1.
Members: Get Ready to Renew
NJ FamilyCare has launched a public education campaign, StayCoveredNJ, at nj.gov/StayCoveredNJ, to inform New Jerseyans about the upcoming process. NJ FamilyCare has two messages for members:
-
- Make sure NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid has your correct mailing address. You can confirm or update your contact information by calling NJ FamilyCare at 1-800-701-0710 (TTY: 711). NJ FamilyCare will use this information to communicate with you about your healthcare coverage.
- Respond to mail from NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid right away to avoid a gap in your coverage. You need to look for and respond to mail from the State of New Jersey or your local county board of social services. If NJ FamilyCare requests information, you need to respond right away to avoid a gap in your NJ FamilyCare coverage.
Providers and Community Partners: It’s Time to Raise Awareness
As this important eligibility work begins, community partners can help get the word out about what is happening next with NJ FamilyCare coverage. Providers and community partners can assist by doing the following:
-
- Becoming NJ FamilyCare Ambassadors to help raise awareness. To become an NJ FamilyCare Ambassador, email CommunityCollab@dhs.nj.gov with the subject line “Ambassador.”
- Checking gov/StayCoveredNJ for updated materials. Posters are available in 21 languages on the StayCoveredNJ site for on-demand printing. Posters can be posted in locations that are visible to the people we mutually serve, like reception desks and common areas. Frequently Asked Questions are also available online and updated often.
Protecting Healthcare Coverage
NJ FamilyCare and community partners will work together to raise awareness about this important process. For members, continuity of care is a priority, and we do not want anyone who is eligible to lose their healthcare coverage. We are ready and here to help. By working together, we can help ensure the best outcomes for New Jersey residents.

How can people help as community ambassadors for NJ FamilyCare?
Spread the word: Through word-of-mouth and peer-to-peer sharing, community ambassadors can reach members. Community ambassadors can be NJ FamilyCare members, employees of community organizations, neighbors who want to keep their communities covered, or anyone in between. The Stay Covered NJ Toolkit has materials to download and share in English, Spanish, and 19 other languages. The posters can be printed or posted online. These messages direct NJ FamilyCare members to call 1-800-701-0710 (TTY: 711) to update their contact information and look for mail related to NJ FamilyCare. As a trusted community member or organization, you can share this information to help keep NJ FamilyCare members insured year-round.
How can providers help?
Healthcare providers have a special role as a trusted source of health information. There is no better time to discuss the importance of remaining insured, healthy, and safe than when a patient receives medical care. Each day, staff have the opportunity to remind patients about renewal of their NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid coverage.
Please talk to patients about updating their contact information with NJ FamilyCare and responding promptly to our mail. When a patient with NJ FamilyCare coverage reports a new address to your office, please tell them to call 1-800-701-0710 (TTY: 711) to update their address with NJ FamilyCare too.
To help us get the word out, you can visit our StayCoveredNJ website right now. There, you’ll find printable materials, including posters in 21 languages and Frequently Asked Questions.
