Dashboard & Reports

DMHAS promotes the use of data-driven information to guide policy, planning and decision making. An array of research and planning tools are used to provide information and recommendations to enhance program development, service delivery, outcomes and accountability. This section contains a wide range of reports to inform and educate our stakeholders about behavioral health care data in New Jersey.

In accordance with N.J. Stat. § 30:4-27.9a, hospitals and emergency departments in New Jersey are required to submit quarterly reports to the Department of Human Services. These reports provide detailed information on the involuntary detainment of individuals and the continued hold of individuals according to the amended civil commitment statute, including the number of applications for temporary court orders, the number of granted orders, the characteristics of the detained individuals, and the duration of detainments.

At this time, the Department of Health has only handled one (1) application for a temporary bed pursuant to N.J.S.A. 30:4-27.9a.  The study pursuant to N.J.S.A. 30:4-27.3a is underway and will be posted here once available.

Middle School Risk & Protective Factor Statewide Survey

DMHAS contracted with Montclair University, Center for Research and Evaluation of Education and Human Services, on conducting The New Jersey Middle School Survey for 7th and 8th graders.    This survey instrument reflects new and emerging trends (trend selections as far back as 2012) and students are asked about substance use, vaping, gaming and gambling, mental health, bullying and social media, and risk and protective measures.    Results from this survey are used by a variety of community stakeholders and state agencies to inform prevention programming.    This data is also used to inform funding for NJ state investments in efforts to reduce adolescent substance use.    This survey was conducted February-June 2023.
