About the Director
Wayne Wolk serves as State Fire Marshal and Director of the Division of Fire Safety at the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.
Wayne brings decades of public safety experience from the City of Trenton Fire Department, one of New Jersey's largest fire departments. Over his career, he held multiple leadership roles covering training, staffing, shared services, and departmental operations. He continued the development of Trenton’s established hazardous material and dive teams while assisting the operational division and fire academy, secured state and federal grant funding, and worked with surrounding municipalities on shared service agreements that improved efficiency and reduced costs for taxpayers.
Prior to joining DCA, Wayne served as Executive Vice President and Labor Chairman for the New Jersey State Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association, where he worked with local, state, and federal leaders on staffing, workplace safety, and labor agreements. His background includes collective bargaining, fire district consolidation, personnel management, and conflict resolution.
In his current role, Wayne provides expertise on fire service operations, staffing, collective bargaining matters, and fire district consolidation and shared services initiatives. His experience in municipal operations and cross-jurisdictional collaboration supports the Department's work with local governments and public safety partners across New Jersey.
