Dashboard Provides Key Data on Housing in New Jersey Communities

TRENTON, NJ –The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) today announced the Municipal Housing Profile Dashboard (MHPD), an interactive tool that offers detailed data on housing conditions, costs, production, needs, and households in New Jersey. The MHPD also provides eviction filing and warrant of removal data at the zip code level for 2022 through 2024.

The MHPD makes it easy for the public to access key data regarding the housing in their communities. Users can select a municipality and generate a custom summary of key data points for the selected municipality, as well as generating data summaries by county, legislative district, and housing region.

“DCA is committed to providing actionable, data-driven solutions that aid New Jersey municipalities in assessing and addressing their communities’ unique, affordable housing needs effectively and efficiently,” said DCA Acting Commissioner Kia A. King. “The Municipal Housing Profile Dashboard aids in achieving that goal.”

“The Municipal Housing Profile Dashboard is one more tool that local planning and zoning boards, and municipal housing liaisons can reference when evaluating the housing stock, demand, and needs when planning further housing and affordable housing development,” said DCA Chief Data Officer Christopher Wheeler, PhD.

The MHPD aggregates data from DCA’s Division of Codes and Standards, the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance, the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the 2025 Point-in-Time Homeless Count, and the New Jersey Administrative Office of the Courts to present a complete picture of housing needs and the housing stock in every municipality. The data sources on the MHPD will be updated annually.

“Through our work with municipalities, developers and stakeholders on affordable housing solutions, DHCR has seen that the greatest success comes when a community understands its residents’ unique needs and creates housing that will meet those needs. The Municipal Housing Profile Dashboard delivers the data that will empower municipalities to develop housing tailored to their own community, instead of settling for one-size-fits-all solutions,” said Assistant Commissioner and Division of Housing and Community Resources Director Janel Winter. “The MHPD provides a detailed view of a community’s affordable housing needs and complements the New Jersey Housing Opportunities for Municipal Equity and Success (NJHOMES) program that focuses on the steps required to develop that housing.”

Overview of available information on the Municipal Housing Profile Dashboard

The MHPD offers broad reaching benefits to multiple constituencies when addressing New Jersey’s housing needs.

Local planning and zoning boards and municipal housing liaisons may reference it as they work toward understanding their community’s existing housing stock, demand, and gaps for planning purposes in developing housing.

Developers can use the MHPD to tailor their new developments toward fulfilling the unmet needs and demands of the community.

The public could use the MHPD to aid in determining how communities may provide the type of housing that meets their personal needs such as locating studio apartments, new construction homes, rental properties, etc. available in a particular municipality.
