Historic Preservation Specialist
Salary: $55,000 - $80,000/annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications
Location: Trenton, New Jersey/occasional remote work possible
Job Description:
The New Jersey Historic Trust is providing assistance to the Division of Disaster Recovery and Mitigation/DCA in administering federal funding for storm damage caused by Ida. As a liaison for the Trust, the successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating with the Disaster Recovery and Mitigation Division to implement the Programmatic Agreement, and ensuring compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Candidates will be required to make site visits as needed and may also provide technical assistance, and oversee grant funded projects.
*This is a temporary full-time position, initially, with the potential to become permanent. The successful candidate must be willing to work through a temporary agency.
Job Qualifications:
o Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Architecture, Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or closely related discipline, or bachelor’s degree and required experience to meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards for Architectural History or History (36 CFR Part 61). (*Possession of a valid certificate as a Registered Architect issued by the New Jersey Board of Registered Architects may be substituted for the required education)
o Two plus (2+) years in performing detailed investigation of historic structures; preparation of historic structure research reports and/or preparation or review of plans and specifications for preservation projects.
o Experience interpreting and providing guidance on the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Historic Preservation.
o Relevant Section 106 and other historic preservation regulatory compliance experience.
o Ability to clearly explain the Section 106 process to those not knowledgeable in historic preservation and related regulatory issues or procedures.
o Experience and demonstrated knowledge of the NEPA process.
o Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
o Strong time management and organizational skills, and experience working on multiple projects with competing schedules and priorities.
o A valid New Jersey driver’s license.
