First Presbyterian Church of Haddonfield

Preserve New Jersey Historic Preservation Fund
Grant Award: $26,843 (2017)
Grant Recipient: First Presbyterian Church of Haddonfield
County: Camden
Municipality: Haddonfield

A Presbyterian congregation was formally organized in Haddonfield in 1871 and completed its first church building in 1882. The congregation outgrew its first church and in 1906 the cornerstone for the current church was laid. The building was designed by Philadelphia architect Isaac Purcell in a Gothic revival style with a modified Akron plan interior. The church includes three Tiffany stained glass windows. The tower was redesigned in 1930 after a partial collapse. The Manse appears on site by 1908. The church constructed an education building at the back of the church in 1953.

The Trust grant helped fund the preparation of a preservation plan for the church complex, and the preparation of construction documents for the former Manse.
