The 18-room Hunter-Lawrence-Jessup House was built in 1765 by prominent Revolutionary War-era judge, John Sparks. The building was extensively remodeled and extended in 1888. The building has been owned by a number of influential leaders in the community. One such resident was Captain James Lawrence who, while mortally wounded, is attributed with saying “don’t give up the ship” to his crew during a sea battle during the War of 1812. Since 1924, the home has been maintained by the Gloucester County Historical Society.

The 2023 Trust grant will help fund the preparation of a Strategic Plan.
