The oldest extant portion of the John Inskeep Homestead was constructed circa 1771 after the original house on the then-200-acre farm was destroyed by fire. It was built by John Inskeep III who was instrumental in the development of Evesham. Owner of a general store at what became the center of Marlton, John Inskeep discovered the fertilization properties of the marl (green clay) that was abundant in the area, creating a new industry that assisted the agricultural economy. The house was expanded by the construction of two additions, c. 1800 and c.1840, and further altered by a remodeling in the Gothic Revival and Italianate styles in the 1860's. The Inskeep family owned the property from 1725 until 1936, when it was sold to Alfred and Helen May Higginbotham. In 1963, the Higginbotham's conveyed the property to developers, retaining life tenancy. In 1988, the house was scheduled for demolition until local opposition led the developers to donate the house on a sub-divided lot to the Evesham Historical Society. The property is listed in the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places for its significance as an example of an evolving eighteenth-century farmhouse and its associations with the early development of Evesham.

The Trust grant will help fund structural repairs, interior rehabilitation, and moisture control measures.
