John Van Buren Wicoff House
Capital Preservation Grant: Level I
Grant Award: $150,000 (2017) Grant Recipient: Plainsboro Township County: MiddlesexMunicipality: Plainsboro
The main portion of the house was constructed circa 1875 for John Wicoff. The house was part of a 100-acre farm. John’s son, John Van Buren Wicoff constructed a number of additions onto the original Italianate-styled house beginning in 1893 and continuing to 1929. The property remained in the Wicoff family until 1977 when Plainsboro Township purchased the building for use as its offices until 1995. The local historical society then operated the Plainsboro Historical Museum in the house until the historical society disbanded in 2011.
The Trust grant helped fund interior plaster restoration, a new HVAC system, electrical system upgrades, interior and exterior accessibility upgrades, a new alarm system, and plumbing work as part of a larger restoration project.
