The Mount Rose Distillery is a two-story vernacular brick building built c. 1875. Hopewell Township has a history of cider milling and distilleries, many of which were run by prominent local families in the Mount Rose community. Two such families, the Drakes and the Stouts, were involved in this distillery, which was in operation from the 1840s through the 1920s. At the time of operation, the historic distillery produced hundreds of barrels of peach brandy, apple cider, and apple whiskey. This particular building was primarily used for storage and administration. The Mount Rose Distillery is the only extant structure from the operation and a rare historical resource in the sense that such businesses are seldom preserved. It is also significant for its representation of New Jersey’s agricultural and rural commerce history.

A Trust grant helped fund exterior repairs to the building including stabilizing exterior brickwork and replacement of the wood windows and door lintels.
