The Mountain Lakes Station was built by the Delaware, Lackawanna, & Western Railroad (DL&W) in 1912, with the cornerstone laid by resident suffragist, Belle de Rivera. The Mountain Lakes Station was designed by the young architect William Hull Botsford under supervision of Frank J. Nies, the head architect for the DL&W, and G. J. Ray, the head engineer for the DL&W. The establishment of the Mountain Lakes Station was crucial to the developmental history of Mountain Lakes, as it provided a direct line to New York City through Hoboken, making commuting accessible.
