Old Stone Church

Preserve New Jersey Historic Preservation Fund
Historic Site Management Grant
Grant Award: $25,500 (2017)
Grant Recipient: First Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Hunterd
County: Hunterdon
Municipality: Kingwood

The land the church now sits on was originally granted to the Kingwood Presbyterian Church in 1754 by Lawrence Hoff, a local plantation owner for whom the area known as Hoff’s Mill was named. The original church is no longer extant. The current church, built in 1837, is a good example of a significant New Jersey building type – a 19th century, rural, Protestant church.

The Trust grant helped fund a preservation plan and schematic design for new interior stairs and a second exit.
