Now a National Historic Landmark and a New Jersey State Park, the Princeton Battlefield was a defining site of the American Revolution. Fought on January 3, 1777, the Battle of Princeton, an unexpected clash between American and British forces, was the culmination of General George Washington’s ten-day campaign that snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. This campaign proved Washington’s amateur army could defeat the British and changed the course of the war. Prior to the park’s creation in 1946, Princeton Battlefield was memorialized by little more than a small pile of cannonballs marking where the two sides clashed. Following a donation of some 50 acres of land by Robert Maxwell and Agnes Pyne Hudson, the State of New Jersey dedicated the new battlefield park on October 20, 1946.

The 2023 Trust grant will help fund a Phase I Archaeological Investigation.
