Built in 1869, Rahway Library was originally women-run and functioned as a public library until 1967 when it transitioned to being used as a recreation center for Rahway. The building was used as a recreation center until 1997 when it was turned into art gallery space. Presently, the building is still used as a gallery and concert space. The City of Rahway claims that the Rahway Library is the second oldest surviving library building in New Jersey and one of the first free municipal libraries in the state.

The 2024 grant will help fund the preparation of a National Register nomination and a Preservation Plan.
