Richard Outwater, active in local lumber and milling, is said to have built this stone house in 1821 on property his wife had inherited from her father, Hendrick Kip. Prior to this, the land had been owned by her grandfather, Peter Kip, though it is presently unknown when it was first purchased. The house was added to the National and New Jersey Registers of Historic places in 1983 as a Thematic Nomination of Early Stone Houses of Bergen County. The house remained under private ownership until its purchase in 2023 by the Borough of East Rutherford with the intent to utilize it as a community center.

The 2023 Trust grant will help fund the preparation of a Preservation Plan.
