Rutherford World War I Monument
Grant Award: $61,800 (2017) Grant Recipient: Rutherford Borough County: BergenMunicipality: Rutherford Borough
Designed in 1920 by noted Rutherford architect Edgar I. Williams, the monument is one of his earliest works, in cast stone with bronze ornament. Located at a five-way intersection near the post office and library (also designed by Williams) and the municipal building, it is a commemorative monument to the 19 local soldiers who fought in World War I. Edgar Williams and his brother, poet Wiliam Carlos Williams, were both Rutherford residents.
The 2017 Trust grant helped fund the final phase of restoration of the monument.
