The Great Falls of Paterson and Society for Useful Manufacturers Historic District is a National Historic Landmark. The steam plant historically was part of a complex of three related buildings – a circa 1912 hydroelectric plant, a circa 1913 auxiliary steam power plant and a circa 1920 office building. The hydroelectric plant and office building are fully extant. Only the lower level of the auxiliary steam plant remains. The upper portions of the building were demolished in 1962.

The Trust grant helped fund a Historic Preservation Plan for the lower level remains of the former S.U.M. Auxiliary Steam Plant at the Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park.
