Symen Van Wickle House
Historic Site Management
Grant Award: $48,126 (2017) Grant Recipient: Meadows Foundation County: SomersetMunicipality: Franklin
Recent research determined that the building was probably constructed by or for the Van Duyn family, not for Symen Van Wickle as stated in the National Register nomination. The building dates to at least 1730 with additions completed around 1755 and 1890. The building is a good example of Dutch-influenced architecture. The property is adjacent to the Raritan and Delaware Canal and contains a small cemetery in addition to the house. The property was purchased by Franklin Township in 1977.
The Trust grant helped fund the preparation of a Historic Site Master Plan for the property and a Historic Structure Report for the house.
