The Kalmia Club is an Italianate style building built c. 1870 as an early one-story wood-frame school building, with a larger addition constructed in 1882. The building was home to the Lambertville Seminary Boys School and the Quaker Society of Friends Meeting House before it was acquired by The Kalmia Club. The Kalmia Club was originally founded as the “Reading Circle” in 1892 by women seeking self-improvement through social meetings. Throughout the years, The Kalmia Club has provided women a space to discuss literature, self-improvement, cultural topics, and community improvement. Like many women’s clubs in New Jersey, it gave women in the late 19th and early 20th centuries the opportunity to have a positive impact on the world outside of their homes. The building was listed as contributing to the Lambertville Historic District in 1983 and individually listed in 2012.

The 2024 Trust grant will help fund the preparation of a Preservation Plan.
