This 19th century farmhouse, which combines Georgian and Federal style elements, is significant for its association with William Lindsay White, prolific journalist and World War II correspondent whose published work in the 1940s made important contributions to journalism and politics. It was the family’s country residence from 1938-1955 and it is where White did much of his writing. The property’s association with White presents the opportunity to interpret a broader history of the Delaware Valley “intelligentsia” – wealthy urbanites, artists, and intellectuals who in the mid-20th century concentrated in the New Hope/Lambertville area, but also, as in the Whites’ case, retreated to Hunterdon County, NJ and Bucks County, PA, converting old farmhouses into country homes.

The Trust grant will help fund exterior restoration and site work to address drainage improvements. The 2018 Trust grant helped fund the preparation of a preservation plan and National Register nomination.
