William Green settled in Ewing circa 1700, having moved to the area from Newtown, New York, and purchased a 345-acre plot of land in 1712. The Green family retained ownership of the house and property until 1879, and it remained a private residence and farm until its final sale to the State of New Jersey in 1930. The William Green House was listed in the New Jersey Register of Historic Places on September 6, 1973 and in the National Register of Historic Places on December 4, 1973 under Criteria A for being associated with events that have made a significant contribution to the broad patterns of our history in the area of agriculture. The house is also believed to be eligible for listing under Criteria C for its distinctive architectural features including its Flemish-bond patterned brick masonry, overall form and fenestration, first and second-floor fireplaces, winder stairs, second-floor paneling and a largely intact brick-floored two-room cellar.

The 2023 Trust grant helped fund the preparation of a Preservation Plan.
