Ahavas Sholom Synagogue, constructed in 1923, is the last active historic synagogue in Newark, and one of only two Jewish congregations in the city. The building's street-front exterior features Classically inspired design elements and symmetry, and the worship space exhibits one of the oldest existing tabernacle arks in the state.
The Trust grant helped fund the exterior restoration work and the addition of a barrier-free entrance. The 2001 Trust grant helped fund construction documents for exterior restoration.
