The Eakin House was built in the late 18th century and substantially remodeled ca. 1841 in the Greek Revival style for Alphonso L. Eakin, the first of four generations of this prominent Salem family to occupy the house. The Society owns several other historic buildings in the Salem Historic District that are used for archives, research and exhibits.
The 2006 Trust grant was awarded to develop rehabilitation plans, but the anticipated construction was postponed. A previous Trust grant helped fund the preparation of a conditions assessment for the building.
