Bethlehem Township Old Town Hall

Garden State Historic Preservation Trust Fund
Grant Award: $7,800 (2006)
Grant Recipient: West Portal Historical Society
County: Hunterdon
Municipality: Bethlehem Township

This small, single room building was constructed circa 1900 as Bethlehem Township’s Town Hall and referred to historically as Bethlehem Township Town House. The building is an early and unique example of concrete block construction. This small building features a stepped parapet with ball finials, a molded concrete block belt course and lintels with molded decorative swags. The township continued to use it as a town hall and courthouse until 1964. Except for the roof, the building is in good condition.

The 2006 Trust grant helped fund slate roof replacement.
