Bishop-Irick Farmstead

Garden State Historic Preservation Trust Fund
Historic Site Management Grant
Capital Preservation Grant, Level I
Grant Award: $23,655 (2002); $9,092 (2008)
Grant Recipient: Pinelands Preservation Alliance
County: Burlington
Municipality: Southampton

First established in 1704 and associated with two of the county’s most prominent families historically, the Bishop-Irick Farmstead was purchased by the nonprofit Preservation Alliance in 2002 and adapted as its headquarters and visitors center.  The former wagon shed is used for educational programs.

The 2008 Trust grant helped fund a feasibility study of the 1932 dairy barn. The report made recommendations for immediate repair work, future adaptive use and accessibility and suggested ways to address interpretive planning to incorporate the barn into heritage and/or eco-tourism opportunities

A previous grant grant aided the restoration of the farmstead for use as the headquarters of the Pinelands Preservation Alliance. The floor structure was reinforced, and barrier free access and facilities were created for the building.
