Florence Rand Lang, a prominent Montclair artist and cultural patron, helped design this eclectic Arts and Crafts house, which also displays Gothic and Queen Anne elements. The most distinctive features in this 1906 building are the elaborate wood bargeboards, brackets and panels on the exterior. With the exception of one free standing sculpture, Red Gables in the only surviving example of Lang's work as a woodcarver.

The grant is funding exterior rehabilitation, including repointing brick, repairing windows and doors, replacing broken roof tiles and repainting wood and stucco. The project also entails rebuilding a brick perimeter wall and restoring landscaping. The house, which formerly served as an art school, will now serve as the Jewish Community Center of the 500-member B'nai Keshet congregation.
