Cavalry Cottage
Historic Site Management Grant
Grant Award: $14,715 (2004) Grant Recipient: Stafford Township County: OceanMunicipality: Stafford
Cavalry Cottage is significant for its unusual method of frame construction and its surviving interior carpentry. It is also known for its association with Brigadier-General Grier who lived here during the late 19th century. Constructed in the 1760s, it is the oldest building in Manahawkin. The building is being leased to the Stafford Township Historical Society, which will interpret both the house and grounds.
The Trust matching grant helped fund the preparation of a preservation plan to guide the restoration of the cottage and learn more about its construction history.
