The Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church, built in 1871 and designed by Ebenezer Roberts, was, at the time, the largest Presbyterian Church in New Jersey. The church was destroyed by fire in 1931 and rebuilt from 1932 to 1934 to a new design by Zantzinger, Borie & Medary. The reconstruction incorporated the foundation and bell tower base.

While the original church was built in stone, the reconstruction used cast stone, scribed and tinted to resemble stone blocks. The 2007 grant helped fund the study of the cast-stone exterior and determine an appropriate method of repair. A previous Trust grant helped fund a preservation plan for the main sanctuary and parish house.
