Cold Spring Grange #132

Cultural Trust Capital Preservation Grant
Grant Award: $14,825 (2012)
Grant Recipient: Historic Cold Spring Village
County: Cape May
Municipality: Lower Township

Historic Cold Spring Village is a living history museum that explores Southern New Jersey’s past. The museum is comprised of 26 historic buildings, the majority having been relocated from other sites in Cape May and Cumberland counties.  Cold Spring Grange is one of the exceptions.  The Cold Spring Village Grange #132 was organized in 1903 and its hall constructed in its current location in 1912. Until circa 1970, the Grange served as a meeting place of the local chapter of the Patrons of Husbandry. It was an important institution for famers, both in terms of disseminating agricultural information and as a social activity for men and women.

The former Grange currently houses a restaurant and provides meeting space for other Village activities.

The 2012 grant will help fund the installation of a custom curved rail stair chair lift to provide second floor accessibility.
