The Eakin House is a late 18th century structure that was substantially remodeled in the 1840s in the Greek Revival style for Alphonso L. Eakin.  The building, its adjacent law offices and Gothic/Oriental style bathhouse in the back yard contribute to the Salem Historic District and are notable for their occupancy by four generations of the Eakins, a prominent Salem family.  The Society acquired the proeprty in 1992.

The grant helped to fund the repointing and capping of two chimneys to stop water damage as well as the restoration of interior decorative plaster.  The buidling will eventually be used for collections storage and public meeting space.
