Grant Award: $15,000 (2005); $6,713 (2006)
Grant Recipient: Summit Playhouse Association
County: Union
Municipality: Summit

Constructed as the Summit Public Library in 1891, architect Arthur Jennings designed a Richardsonian Romanesque style structure utilizing a variety of masonry materials, including slate, granite, and brick.  Abandoned as a library in 1911, the building was rescued seven years later by the Playhouse Association, which was founded by Marjorie Cranstoun.  The Association constructed a 100-seat auditorium addition in 1960.  The theater today attracts 5,000 adult and child patrons annually.

The grants helped fund repair and restoration of wood windows and repointing of the 1891 building.
