TISCO Building

Cultural Trust Historic Preservation Grants
Grant Award: $48,000 (2009)
Grant Recipient: Union Forge Heritage Association
County: Hunterdon
Municipality: High Bridge

The earliest portion of the TISCO office building was constructed in 1742 as the general office for the Union Iron Works and is the oldest building in New Jersey associated with industrial production. The current building reflects additions made during the 1890s and 1920s. The building has been vacant since the iron and steel company closed in 1971. The Borough purchased the property in 2006 for open space preservation. The office building suffers from severe deterioration and the collapse of the central stair.

The current grant will help fund roof repair and structural stabilization of the building that will enable eventual repair and a new use.
