Historic Fire Station #8 is a unique resource and has been used as a training and educational facility since its construction in the late nineteenth century. This brick building features neo-Romanesque details and herringbone patterned brick arches above the windows. It is a visual articulation of Atlantic City’s fire fighting history, as its apparatus bays were originally constructed to accommodate horse-drawn fire engines and its 6-story tower was designed to hang-dry fire hoses.
The Trust grant helped fund the preparation of a nomination for listing in both the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places, a conditions assessment, and construction documents to guide adaptive reuse of the third and fourth floors.
