Historic Fire Station #8 is a unique resource and has been used as a training and educational facility since its construction in the late nineteenth century. This brick building features neo-Romanesque details and herringbone patterned brick arches above the windows. It is a visual articulation of Atlantic City’s fire fighting history, as its apparatus bays were originally constructed to accommodate horse-drawn fire engines and its 6-story tower was designed to hang-dry fire hoses.
The 2024 Trust grant will help fund rehabilitation including improvements to existing utilities, bathroom upgrades, expansion of the existing kitchen, preservation of existing historic finishes, and installation of interpretive signage.
The 2021 Trust grant will help fund building envelope and structural rehabilitation of Fire Department 4 and Drill School.
The 2018 Trust grant helped fund the preparation of a nomination for listing in both the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places, a conditions assessment, and construction documents to guide adaptive reuse of the third and fourth floors.
