King Store and Homestead are located opposite a canal basin, near the Morris Canal Park, and near Planes II and III in East Roxbury.  The store dates from 1815 and was owned by Theodore King in 1881 when he constructed the Queen Anne style home on an adjacent lot.  The store is interpreted to 1925, when it was mothballed.  The house contains some period furnishings, office, archive storage and gallery space.  The property was purchased with Green Acres funds in 1983 and is leased to the Roxbury Historic Trust.

The store is suffering some deterioration due to water infiltration.  The house’s need include porch restoration, mural restoration, rehabilitation of the kitchen and repair of some water infiltration.

The 2020 Trust grant will help fund interior rehabilitation of the King Store Museum and repair of the wagon shed wall. The 2006 grant helped fund the preparation of an historic structure report to assess the condition of the two buildings and make recommendations for future preservation work, interpretation and programming. For more information, visit: www.roxburynewjersey.com/trust.htm
