Grant Award: $150,000 (2016) Grant Recipient: Lake Hopatcong Foundation County: MorrisMunicipality: Roxbury Township
The Landing Railroad station is an example of the Tudor Revival/Jacobean style, and was designed to integrate the Morris Canal and rail travel. Although built during a time when the cargo shipping use of the Canal was waning, the station was designed to utilize the canal for passenger access to Lake Hopatcong, which at the time was a major summer resort.
The Trust grant would help fund restoration of train station’s distinctive green glazed tile roof and parapet. The work is based on the priority recommendations of a preservation plan. Once restored, the station building will become a cultural and community center and provide visitor information.
