Memorial Baptist Church of Salem
Historic Site Management Grant
Grant Award: $8,711 (2005) Grant Recipient: Memorial Baptist Church of Salem County: SalemMunicipality: Salem
This brick church, constructed in 1870 to accommodate new worshippers after a religious revival, is a near architectural twin of an Italianate-style Methodist church in Salem. The church interior features an unusual application of lincrusta, an embossed wall covering, on all four walls and over the entire ceiling. Dominating its street corner, the church contributes to the historic character of Salem's historic district.
The Trust grant will help fund the preparation of a preservation plan to guide the restoration of this church.
